My Passion for Art Deco Jewellery
Art Deco jewellery emerged during the 1920s and 1930s, in the wake of the First World War. This movement was characterised by its bold geometric shapes, contrasting colours and modernist designs. Art Deco jewellery was a reaction against the naturalistic designs of the earlier Art Nouveau movement, and instead embraced a more rigid, linear aesthetic.
Some of the key features of Art Deco jewellery include:
- Geometric shapes: Art Deco jewellery often incorporated geometric shapes such as circles, triangles and rectangles. These shapes were arranged in symmetrical and abstract patterns that were highly stylised.
- Contrasting colours: Art Deco jewellery typically used bold and contrasting colours, such as black and white, red and black, and blue and green. These colours were often accentuated with precious stones and metals.
- Streamlined designs: Art Deco jewellery was designed to be highly streamlined and modernist, with clean lines and minimal embellishments. The focus was on form over function.
- Luxurious materials: Art Deco jewellery was created with some of the most luxurious and expensive materials available at the time, including diamonds, gold, silver, platinum, and pearls.
Today, Art Deco jewellery is highly sought after by collectors and fashion enthusiasts for its unique and striking designs. From ornate brooches and necklaces to delicate earrings and rings, Art Deco jewellery continues to inspire fashion trends and influence contemporary design.
Whilst many of the fine Art Deco pieces remain outside my budget - my shop is crammed full of true Art Deco period costume jewellery, buttons, buckles and accessories - so you too can own gems from this glorious moment in time.
